Our clients often struggle with the dimensions of wellness, such as navigating health systems, social services, and accessing tools to effectively cope with emotional, social, and physical wellness. Cultivating a sense of community, like we do at Casa Quezada, can encourage candid conversations about issues such as substance use or disabilities and can help identify beliefs or behaviors that interfere with daily living.

And through this work, we are able to celebrate individual successes: Celestino had been navigating temporary housing for over a decade prior to entering the Casa Quezada program, from unhoused communal spaces to navigation centers to our Shelter program, and into Casa Quezada supportive housing before finally getting his own apartment.

“This is an important win not only for me but also an example for the rest of my neighbors and friends here at Casa Quezada,” Celestino says. “Even with all of my challenges that I had to overcome like my emotional well-being, addiction, and overall stability, with the help of Supportive Services team, I now have my own apartment. I hope that everyone here sees me as a grain of hope that it’s possible to graduate from Casa Quezada supportive housing. Today is not a goodbye but see you around in the neighborhood.”

He continued: “There had been so many instances where I wanted to throw the towel and instances that had to start over with my addiction, but If it hadn’t been from the supportive services team Aminta, Janet and janitors like Gloria, Jose, and all other staff from Casa Quezada I wouldn’t be here today saying I move out to an apartment of my own.”

Another tenant shared… “I’m happy for Tino, man if he done it, soon that will be me too.”
